6 Natural Hacks To Free Your Home From Unpleasant Odors

Even if your home is almost clean, dealing with an unpleasant smell disturbing the ambiance can be a downer. Unwanted odors are annoying, and commercial air fresheners are not the best choice to eliminate pungent smells.

But don’t worry! Try these six hacks to remove uninvited odors in your home naturally.

Hack #1: Open the windows

If some smells overstay their welcome, you might need to show them the exit. The odor problem isn’t that grave in many cases, and maybe your home has lousy air circulation. So, next time you catch a glimpse of funky smells, check if you need to open a window.

Hack #2: Sprinkle baking soda

Removing terrible smells from fabrics is challenging. Fortunately, baking soda can deodorize these surfaces without residue or damage. Sprinkle baking soda over carpets, linens, or bedding and vacuum it after a couple of minutes; you’ll ensure fresh fabrics!

Extra: Leave an open box of baking soda inside your fridge to attract and cut through odors.

Hack #3: Repurpose used coffee grounds

When removing odors, the bathroom is a priority. If you want to add a punch of energizing aroma, use coffee. After brewing a cup of joe, don’t throw the coffee grounds just yet; keep them inside an open container and set it in your bathroom.

You can also take it outside your home and deodorize your car. Just leave a closed container with a few small holes on the lid to coffee-scent the trunk!

Hack #4: Use the acidic power of white vinegar

White vinegar is an excellent odor remover as it cuts the smell particles with its acidity. If you want to use this agent, make a simmer pot with white vinegar for a couple of minutes to destroy any bad smells in your kitchen and nearby rooms.

Also, when mopping up pet urine, mix equal parts vinegar and water in a bottle and spray it over the puddle. However, not all surfaces get along with vinegar, so make sure you spot-test first!

Hack #5: Use lemon in your garbage disposal

Stinky plumbing is one of the nastiest things you can smell, and the garbage disposal is particularly unpleasant. Food residue under the blades is the main issue in this case. Luckily, lemon is excellent at cutting through awful smells and leaving a soothing citrus scent behind.

To refresh the garbage disposal with lemons, throw a handful of ice and squeeze a lemon over the device. Shred the ice and let the lemon flow under the blades. Lemony scent!

Hack #6: Sweeten the freezer with vanilla extract

If you have lots of meat in cold storage, chances are your freezer doesn’t smell very good. A quick fix to this issue is soaking up a cotton ball in vanilla extract (or your favorite essential oil) and running it throughout the freezer.

Regular cleaning can also prevent odors

If you clean your home regularly, you can deal with most smells before they become a bigger issue; however, it will take time. At Home Maid Better, we know what needs to be cleaned to always be in a freshened-up home, so don’t hesitate to hire us when you need time off from your chores.
